Meeting with Women Journalists in Jawzjan
Muhammad Zaman Samimi, the provincial representative of the Afghan Journalists and Media Support Organization (AJMSO), held a meeting with a number of female journalists in Jawzjan province to review and discuss the situation of women journalists in the province.
During the meeting, female journalists from various media outlets participated and discussed the challenges and opportunities existing in their working environment in the province.
Florence Furutan, Head of Broadcasting at Radio Payam Bano, said in her remarks that this media outlet is one of those managed and operated by women and continues its activities despite limited resources. According to her, currently four women are working in this radio station in different departments.
She also highlighted the financial problems of media organizations, adding that the lack of financial support has made their activities more difficult.
She further stated that no cooperation has been provided in the area of training and capacity building of staff, and therefore employees have not had the opportunity to enhance their skills.
According to Ms. Furutan, despite all these challenges, their main effort is to ensure that the voices of women are heard in society through the media.
Similarly, Ms. Nabila Mehran, Head of Radio Mehran, spoke about the activities of her media outlet and said that despite difficult conditions, the radio produces and broadcasts various programs to raise public awareness. However, the lack of support and sufficient resources has created serious challenges for their work.
The participants also emphasized that Jawzjan province, being a relatively remote area, receives less attention from central institutions and supporting organizations, which is why the problems of media outlets in the province are increasing day by day.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Zaman Samimi, the provincial representative of the Afghan Journalists and Media Support Organization, stated that he will try to raise these issues with the relevant authorities and provide cooperation within his capacity.
At the end of the meeting, the female journalists stressed that despite all challenges, they will continue their work and hope that in the future more attention will be given to their situation and that of their colleagues.
