Commemoration of May 3 – World Press Freedom Day
On the occasion of May 3, World Press Freedom Day, the Afghan Journalists and Media Support Organization (AJMSO) emphasizes the vital role of free, independent, and responsible media in strengthening transparency and public awareness.
Abdul Qadeem Wyar, Head of the Afghan Journalists and Media Support Organization, while appearing in a special World Press Freedom Day program on Shamshad Television, explained the purpose and significance of commemorating this day. He highlighted the major challenges faced by media outlets and journalists—particularly the economic difficulties of media organizations and issues related to access to information—and called for serious attention from the government and international organizations in this regard.
AJMSO, while offering prayers for the souls of those who have lost their lives in this path, renews its commitment to supporting journalists and emphasizes the continuation of efforts to enhance media capacity, defend journalists’ rights, and create a safe working environment for media professionals.
World Press Freedom Day serves as a reminder that access to information is a fundamental right of citizens, and without free media, sustainable development and transparency in public affairs cannot be achieved.
