Afghan Journalists and Media Support Organization (AJMSO)

The Afghan Journalists and Media Support Organization (AJMSO) is an independent, non-political, and non-profit organization established with the aim of supporting, empowering, and defending the rights of journalists and media outlets across the country.
After the political changes in the country, a significant number of media outlets that relied on external financial assistance or were managed by individuals with political affiliations were forced to cease their operations. In addition, the sharp decline in media revenues caused many media organizations to face serious financial challenges, leading to staff reductions and the dismissal of professional journalists. Furthermore, the departure of a considerable number of journalists from the country has intensified the shortage of skilled and professional media personnel.
Under these circumstances, the need for targeted, continuous, and effective efforts to support the survival of media outlets, improve the economic situation of journalists, enhance professional capacities, and defend freedom of expression has become more urgent than ever. Recognizing these needs, the Afghan Journalists and Media Support Organization initiated its activities to prevent further challenges facing the media sector and to create conditions that enable journalists to continue their professional work.
AJMSO continuously works to provide legal support for journalists and media organizations, facilitate access to information, enhance journalists’ job security, strengthen professional capacities, and promote responsible and professional journalism. AJMSO firmly believes that free media and professional journalists play a vital role in public awareness, transparency, and the protection of public interest in society.
Although AJMSO is benefits from the presence of individuals with extensive experience and a strong professional background in Afghanistan’s media and journalism sector.

Additionally, he served for three years with the international media organization All India Radio in India.
Mr. Wyar has also worked as the Head of the News Department at Kabul News Television, later serving as a researcher in a journalists’ protection organization, and subsequently for more than three years as Deputy and Acting Director of this organization.
He has actively participated in important political and social forums, including the Third Doha Meeting on Afghanistan, held on June 30 and July 1, 2024, organized by the United Nations with the participation of representatives from approximately 25 countries. During this meeting, Mr. Wyar emphasized the necessity of including the representatives of Afghan people—particularly women and journalists—in intra-Afghan and international dialogues, and expressed concern over the absence of their direct voices in such international forums.
